Jardine Juniper Hike, 14 June, 2015

Nine hikers made the trek to the old Jardine Juniper tree: Roddy, Katelyn, Dave W, Dick, Tory, Jason, Keenen, Alexi, and Dave P, the leader.

The day was sunny and warm, and thanks to recent rains, the meadows were lush with mules ears and other wildflowers. The stream was visible from the parking lot and past the W. fork of Wood Camp Hollow, but unlike last year, the second stream crossing was dry. We enjoyed great views of Logan Peak, Mt. Elmer and Naomi Peak, all with a little snow still on them.

We had lunch at the shaded lower bench below the Jardine Juniper. Other than a stop to patch blisters caused by a new pair of boots, we had a fast hike back, arriving in Logan at 2:30.

Trip Summary:

  • Carpooled 14 miles to the Wood Camp trailhead
  • Started on the trail 8:35
  • Enjoyed a rest break about 10:00 and lunch at the juniper, 11:25 - 11:50
  • Back at the trailhead at 2:00 and Logan by 2:30
  • Clear skies, calm winds and warm temperatures
  • 9.9 miles and 2500 feet of elevation

Thanks for Dave P for the narrative and Dave W for photos and the GPS work
