Crimson Trail Maintenance, 2015

The Cache Hikers (or Dave W., to be more precise) have officially "adopted" the Crimson Trail since 2013. From October 1, 2014 through September 30, 2015, Dave (and an occasional helper) made 8 trips to the Crimson Trail, performing 41.5 hours of volunteer trail maintenance. Work was done from the footbridge at Spring Hollow (by the Cache Hiker Adopt-A-Trail sign) to the Guinavah campground trailhead, a distance of about 3 miles.

Efforts continued to control the myrtle spurge outbreak that was discovered a few years ago. New plants were found and eradicated every visit (more than 200 plants in 2015). No plants were seen to bloom and set seed but it will take many years before the soil seed bank is depleted.

Other activities included removal of trailside burdock, houndstongue and poison ivy, clearing logs, graffiti removal from the Spring Hollow footbridge to the Crimson Trail junction, misc. tread and switchback repair, and picking up trash.
