Blind Hollow Ski/Snowshoe,
February 11, 2012
Originally scheduled for Green Canyon, icy conditions
prompted us to seek better snow at a higher elevation
destination. The seven participants, Jim, Gordon, Dave W,
Dave P, Jeanne, Jane, and Tim all used snowshoes, a good choice
for this steep and narrow location.
Two inches of new snow covered tracks other travelers had made on
their way to the USU Yurt, located 4 miles up Blind Hollow.
Jim kept an eye out for birds along the trail, but we all noticed
the flock of raucous Clark's Nutcrackers! We also saw places
where deer or elk had chewed bark from aspen trees. The day
was mostly cloudy and fairly warm, and the sun broke through the
cloud cover as we ate lunch. Our total trip distance was 2.9
miles with 800 feet of elevation gain.
