Description
Access via the 300 south in Smithfield (from main street, drive about 3 miles east on 300 south, to a parking area at the Forest Service trailhead).   Beginning at 5500 ft. elevation, the trail follows Dry Canyon east through the Mount Wilderness, arriving at a 8900 ft. saddle between Flattop Mountain and Mount Jardine after about 5 miles. Here, hikers may return on the Birch Creek trail, or continue past Mt. Jardine to the Green Canyon trail (officially, the Mt. Naomi Peak NRT), near Mt.Elmer. This is a fairly difficult trail, not well-maintained, with many switchbacks in steep sections.
