Name Crimson Trail
USFS Trail Number
015
Geographic Area Logan Canyon, south side
Length
3 miles, from the Guinavah campground to the Spring Hollow trail (or 5 miles round trip via the Riverside Nature Trail)
Description
Access via US 89 in Logan Canyon, at the Guinavah-Malibu campground (between mile marker 466 and 457).  Enter the campground and drive to the east, over the Logan River bridge.  The trailhead is located between campsites 29 and 30 (there is no campground fee for hikers parking at the trailhead).  From the campground, the trail climbs toward the southwest, past a junction with the Riverside Nature Trail, then switches back to the southeast.  After 0.9 miles and 1000 feet of climbing, the trail reaches the top of the China Wall band of cliffs.  Here the trail follows the top of the cliffs for another 1.3 miles, then down to meet the Spring Hollow trail at mile 3.0.  Hikers must continue another 0.4 miles down to the Spring Hollow campground, perhaps to a vehicle waiting there, or another 1.4 miles east on the Riverside Nature Trail and back to the starting point at Guinavah campground.

This is a popular trail with great views of Logan Canyon, but there is "exposure" as the trail follows along the top of the 200-foot high cliffs of the China Wall.
Irresponsible hikers have been short-cutting switchbacks and straying from the designated trail, leading to increased erosion and needless maintenance work.
